Higher Living Costs in Malaysia due to the hike of fuel prices!

Its finally happening! With the increase of the global fuel prices, our Malaysian Government has decided there is no way they can continue to subsidise Malaysian with their petrol consumption.

Gosh, even though I am in Singapore, I am still very concerned with this big news. What is going to happen to living costs in Malaysia? Our Prime Minister has informed that the inflation this year will be lifted to between 4 and 5 percent! Imagine the price we have to pay when we next dine in places like Delicious, Italianese or even the hotels! It will be madness won't it?

Yesterday I went to lunch with my fellow Malaysian colleagues at a restaurant in Boat Quay. To my surprise, their express set lunch which includes a maincourse and either starter/dessert only costs $15! The portion was big as well, some of my female colleagues can't even finish their pasta. So my point is, the living costs in Singapore is actually cheaper than those in Malaysia on a dollar to dollar basis! Thats good for me because I can save even more by working here!

Anyway, i think the Government should start building a better public transport for Malaysians. From today onwards, I can imagine the LRT and Monorail stations crowded with people as many people will no longer afford to drive to work. Perhaps our Government shall look at the MRT and Bus system in Singapore! Even on peak hour it wasn't as crowded as I imagined it to be! I remembered taking LRT during peak hour in KL, it was crowded and I have to wait at least three times before even getting into the LRT whereas in Singapore I only need to wait once and the next train will arrive in 2 minutes! Needless to say, the MRT was bigger and wider than our LRT with better ventilation.

Further, it was reported that ultimately the fuel price will be increased to US$0.86 a litre for petrol. I believe that might be happening very soon as well. I am also worry that how my parents and friends are going to survive in Malaysia. I think all the unnecessary entertainment costs would have to be reduced.

So how? Maybe you guys want to consider coming to work in Singapore?

And, yes the Klang Councillor Zakaria passed away this morning. I only have one sentence to say "now you can't enjoy your palace, can you?"

American Idol Season 7: Round 2

My fav contestant for Round 2: David Archuleta !

He sang "Imagine" and it really touched my heart.

If i have to pick one fav female performance, i think i would go for Brooke White. I don't think she sang the song "You are so vain" really well but its more like she really connected with the song (totally agree with Simon) and it brings out her character plus she seems really comfortable singing that song.

Unfortunately, Ramiele failed to stun the audience, or rather me, this week. I can hardly hear her voice. I believe its really a wrong choice of songs for her cause the background singer and the band cover her beautiful voice. I certainly hope that she will stay on but lets just have to wait for the results show tonight!

General Election 2008

I guess i should stop complaining how things are run in this country because people like me contributed to the ultimate result!

Petition for Nian Ning

i am sure all of you have heard of the Slim River Bus Crash incident that claimed the life of Lee Nian Ning, Mohd. Zailani and Pang Boon Eng on the 25^th of January 2008. To stop these terrible accidents from happening again, Nian Ning's family and friends have created a website for online petition to submit a memorandum to the Ministry of Transport.

The March of Justice

I am sure by now everyone has heard about the judiciary "appointment fixing" scandal. You can read about it and watch the video itself on the Malaysian Bar Council website.

The Bar Council is now calling for all the lawyers to march from the Palace of Justice to the Prime Minister's Office on next wed to deliver a memorandum to the PM following the controversial video of the conversation between Senior Lawyer V.K Lingam and the current CJ Ahmad Fairuz.

How do i feel about this whole scandal?

Actually i think corruption is such a common scene in Malaysia. It happens everyday on the street in Malaysia. However, because this video involves a Senior Lawyer and the Current CJ only it has become such a serious matter.

To be honest, i always think that this is how to world works, everything is depending on how much money you have or who you are close to. Of course, we lawyers are so furious about this because what does this kind of scandal do to our justice system? Can we rely on the judges hearing the cases to decide based on the merits rather than connections? Does it all mean that we have to be somebody to win a case? That should not be the way!!!

I am not sure if i would be going to the march itself but i certainly hope that we lawyers can do our part to change the justice system because we are indeed in a position to voice out our frustrations to the Government so as to fulfil our obligation to the society!
